To ensure you are involved in a plane crash you have to take a plane every single day of the year for 26,000 years.

When you feel yourself becoming anxious, breathe in deeply through your nose for the count of 4.... and then...breathe out of your mouth for the count of 5. As you breathe out, consciously relax your shoulders. Repeat this breathing exercise three or four times and to feel more relaxed.

Write your problem out at the top of a sheet of paper. Draw a line down the middle of the page and write Cost at the top of the left-hand column and Benefits at the top of the right-hand column. Write down all the negative things about your current dilemma or problem under the Cost column and then all the things that are positive under the Benefits column. Once you have done this you can evaluate the pros and cons of your situation.

This exercise can be done in as little as 5 minutes or for as long as you like. Make sure you are safe and make yourself comfortable. Then imagine yourself in a walled garden at the time of the year you like the most. As you wander around you notice an old fashioned door in one of the walls. You make your way over and open the door. On the other side is your very own safe space, anywhere you want, with or without people. This is your special place where no one can get to you. Enjoy being there and when ready make your way back to the door, closing it firmly. You then walk around the garden again and open your eyes when you are ready. Remember this place is there for you any time you need it.
